Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Grants are often limited to certain types of licensed agencies, to being located in a particular state or city and to those grants that are working with particular target populations that are of interest to the funder of the grant program. Evergreen Grant Writing will assure that you do not apply for a grant that you are not eligible to be awarded.

  • Evergreen Grant Writing will assess your agencies needs and help you locate grants that are a good fit your agency. If you come to Evergreen Grant Writing with a grant you would like to apply for, we will provide you with an assessment of whether you are eligible and fit the criteria that the grant funder has established.

  • Almost all grants are now submitted through online platforms. Some foundation grants and almost all government grants have their own particular online platform on which the applicants will need to register (e.g., NYS Grants Gateway, NYC MOCS Passport). Evergreen Grant Writing is available to provide this registration service to its clients.

  • Although there are grants where all eligible applicants who provide a properly completed application are awarded funding, most grants are competitive and the applicants with the highest scores receive fundings. Evergreen Grant Writing has the expertise and experience to write and submit an application for your agency that will receive a high score and will be more likely to receive a grant award.

  • Evergreen Grant Writing is well-aware that agencies want to unburden themselves of the work involved in preparing a grant application. We strive to minimize the amount of effort required by the agency during the grant writing process. However, input regarding agency and program information and budget items will need to be obtained from an agency representative to assure that the grant application is completed accurately and reflects the client’s interests.

  • There are grants that are more highly competitive than others because only a few awards are given. If one grant is going to give out 250 awards and another grant program is only giving out 10 awards, an agency applying for the first grant has a better chance of being awarded funding, assuming that the applicant is equally qualified for both grants.

  • Yes, Evergreen Grant Writing will be able to assist your agency with follow-up reports in which the funding agency requires information on the progress and funds spent on the funded grant program.

  • Different grants require significantly different numbers of hours to complete the application. Evergreen Grant Writing’s fees are very reasonable, and we will provide you will a cost and a letter of agreement clearly stating the fee for each particular grant writing project.

  • Sometimes government or foundation funders request a pre-proposal in which the applicant provides a brief outline and budget of the agency program they would like to apply to have funded. The grant funder will review this “Letter of Inquiry” and inform the applicant whether it should or should not go ahead and submit a full proposal for funding consideration. This step is utilized to save both the funding source the additional time and effort of reviewing complete proposals that do not fit the funder's guidelines or interests. It also saves the applicant considerable time and effort in the event that the program the applicant seeks to fund does not fit the interests or guidelines of the funding agency.

  • When a government agency or foundation wants to receive applications for grant funding, an “RFP” will be posted. “RFP” stands for “Request for Proposals.” Sometimes the letters “RFA” are used which is an abbreviation for “Request for Applications.” This "RFP" or "RFA" will provide guidelines on what type of agency is eligible to apply for the grant and the information requested in the grant proposal. It will also provide directions for submitting the completed grant proposal.
